The Fight for Independence Continues…

Happy Independence Day to You!
Tomorrow is certainly one of the most sacred days of the year, for it’s this one day and what it represents that makes all the other ones possible.
I’m sure many people would write down different definitions of “freedom” and “independence” and what these things mean to them… I’d ask you to think about these questions this week and to talk to others, especially your children.
Many sacrifices were made, the greatest of them all, by the revolutionary soldiers that gave our founding fathers the ability to pave the way for the life we all know in America. Of course, this struggle continues today and, in many cases, not just with others “outside” but from within our own great country we fight to maintain our liberties.
And that, my friends, is the key message I have for you today – you must also fight.
Really, it’s as simple as that. Independence is not kept by being passive.
In your daily challenges in life and business you also battle against the forces that try to limit your independence. Entrepreneurship in and of itself is war of independence with yourself and all that is around you. Life, well, no need to elaborate there.
The bottom line is it’s not just about having independence, it’s about “being” independent and what you “do” with it. For me, its about being self-reliant, about choices, about owning, accepting, appreciating the responsibilities of the things you want for yourself and others.
I use that word intentionally, responsibilities, because, as you know, nothing was guaranteed except “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” Hey, there’s magic in that word and it gives you the secret to life… pursuit.
What are you pursuing today?
How are you celebrating your independence?
Let not the sacrifices of others go in vain, stand proud as an American.
As a kid I always loved “standing up” and singing that song… “I’m Proud to Be An American, for at least I know I’m free, and I won’t forget the men who died to give this right to me, and I’ll gladly stand up, next to you and defend her still today, for ain’t no doubt I love this land, God Bless the USA.”
You stand up by taking initiative, being ambitious, continuing the American Dream.
By taking responsibility, by being independent.
Remember, all was risked for all to be gained. That’s what brought about our independence and what will bring about yours throughout your life. Whether in business or life, as an entrepreneur and an American, you are free to choose the life you want to live.
My challenge to you is to “stand up”, take a leap of faith, pursue the life of your dreams and accept nothing less than all you can achieve, all that you deserve.
